RAMALLAH, Wednesday, July 24, 2024 (WAFA) – The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) said on Wednesday that children are paying the highest price of the war in the Gaza Strip, amid displacement and fear of losing their childhood.
UNRWA added in a post on X, “Our UNRWA colleagues continue to provide psychological, social and recreational activities to give the children a sense of normalcy as much as possible.”
“Children should be able to be children,” the agency added.
On Tuesday, UNRWA communications officer, Louise Wateridge, said in an interview with British BBC Radio 4 that Israel has placed more than 80 percent of the areas in the Gaza Strip under evacuation orders, and that thousands of Palestinians continue to flee again from the city. Khan Younis.
Since the onset of the occupation’s aggression on the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023, an estimated 39,090 civilians have been killed, mostly women and children, and 90,147 others have been wounded.
Thousands of victims remain missing; either buried under the rubble or scattered on the roads, as rescue teams face tremendous difficulties in reaching them due to the continued Israeli attacks and the massive amount of debris.
In the West Bank, the death toll as a result of attacks by the occupation forces and colonists rose to 589, including 142 children, since October 7, 2023.
