Israeli soldiers manning a military checkpoint near the West Bank city of Jenin attacked a Palestinian medic on Sunday evening. Palestinian sources said that Firas Haj Ahmad, a local ambulance driver, was stopped and forced out of the ambulance he was driving towards a case in the Kufr Elra’y village, to the south of Jenin. Witnesses said that the soldiers beat the ambulance driver despite the latter’s explanation that he was heading towards an emergency case. The soldiers released him after one hour, witnesses added. There are about 450 Israeli checkpoints and roadblocks throughout the West Bank, restricting the movement of Palestinians and causing the death of some, sometimes due to prolonged hours of delay.
