Israeli forces executed a Palestinian young man and shot another, on Saturday, after besieging and bombing a residential building in the city of Tulkarem, in the northwestern part of the West Bank.

On Saturday afternoon, the Civil Affairs Authority informed the Palestinian Health Ministry of the death of the young man, Islam Jamil Awda, 29, after Israeli soldiers shot him with live ammunition, during the military assault in the “Al-Salam” neighborhood.

Media sources said that Israeli special forces invaded the “Al-Salam” neighborhood, near the Nur Shams refugee camp, east of Tulkarem city, at dawn, and besieged a residential building before reinforcements arrived, including a D-9 armored bulldozer and an excavator.

Armed Palestinian resistance fighters exchanged heavy fire with the attacking army for several hours, while soldiers fired at least 20 “Energa” anti-tank grenades at the residential apartment, causing fires to ignite.

In the morning, eyewitnesses reported that occupation soldiers stormed the ground floor of the building, and opened heavy fire inside, shooting Awda, before confiscating his body.

The Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) said that its ambulance crews transported a young man to the Martyr Thabet Thabet Governmental Hospital, after occupation soldiers shot him in the leg with a live round, during the exchange of fire between the army and resistance fighters.

The Arab48 News website reported that Awda was a member of the “Al-Qassam Brigades” which is the armed wing of the Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas.

It added that the slain young man and other resistance fighters confronted the attacking army for several hours, in the “Al-Salam” neighborhood, after a special unit besieged the residential building and fired many “Energa” anti-tank grenades at the building.
