Egyptian security sources reported that a tunnel was located inside a home of an Egyptian smuggler in the Salah Ed Deen border area, while two more tunnels were uncovered nearby. The tunnels were empty as they had no goods in them when located and apparently no arrests were made so far.
Egypt uncovered more than 450 siege-busting tunnels across the border with Gaza since the beginning of this year.
On Thursday, Egyptian security forces accompanied American military and security personnel in a tour along the border with Gaza as the United States is supervising the installation of advanced equipment to locate underground tunnels.
One of the American security officials is a Lebanese-American man identified as Waleed Nasr. He will be supervising the installation of the new systems.
