A Photographer from Holland won the Silver Camera Award for a picture he took of the Israeli army showering the nonviolent protesters in Ni’lin village, near Ramallah, with tear gas. The photo was taken by Cris Toala Olivares in October 2009 as he was in the West Bank during the olive harvest season.
The shot was taken as the Israeli army attacked local and international nonviolent peace activists participating in the weekly nonviolent protest against the Israeli Annexation Wall and settlements
The Silver Camera Award is the top prize for press photography in the Netherlands.
It is worth mentioning that Olivares, a Dutch citizen from Ecuadorian origin, also visited the Gaza Strip on January 2009, and captured images of Israel’s war on Gaza.
