Israeli soldiers attacked, Friday, the weekly nonviolent protest against the illegal Israeli Annexation Wall and settlements, in Nabi Saleh village, near the central West bank city of Ramallah, injuries were reported.Local protesters, accompanied by International peace activists, marched while chanting slogans against the illegal wall and settlements, and demanded the international community to intervene and stop the ongoing Israeli violations.
Some protesters carried Palestinian flags while others carried the picture of American peace activist, Rachel Corrie, who was killed by the Israeli army in 2003, in Rafah, in the southern part of the Gaza Strip.
The army violently attacked the nonviolent protesters and fired gas bombs and rubber-coated metal bullets at them, in addition to spraying the protesters with wastewater, the Ma’an News Agency reported.
Resident Omar At-Tamimi suffered moderate injuries after being shot with a rubber-coated metal bullet in the head, resident Malek Talal Tamimi was also shot by live rounds army and abdomen, while a young Palestinian woman was shot by a gas bomb in her leg; dozens of protesters were treated for the effects of tear gas inhalation.
The protest started following Friday prayers at the village’s mosque, and the protesters marched towards lands and a spring that the army intends to illegally confiscate for the benefit of Israeli settlements and the Annexation Wall.
The soldiers attacked the peaceful protesters and the journalists and even the medics, and claimed that the area is a “closed military zone”.
Furthermore, the army detained Mohammad Al-Khatib, a local Palestinian activist, in addition to Mariam Al-Barghouthi, cameraman Bilal Tamimi and an internal activist.
Ma’an said that the army stopped an ambulance, and held it for one hour, preventing the medics from entering the village; the army installed roadblocks on all roads leading to the village since early morning hours in an attempt to prevent the residents and their international supporter from conducting their weekly nonviolent protest.
Later on, clashes were reported between local youths who hurled stones at the army; the soldiers fired gas bombs and rubber-coated metal bullets at the protesters.
