The Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR) has, after 13 years following the incident in question, succeeded in ensuring a remedy for the family of ’Ahed al-Telbani, from al-Maghazi refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip, who was killed by the Israeli forces in 2001.
The Palestinian News Network (PNN) reports that on January 31 of 2001, Israeli forces stationed at al-Shuhadaa’ intersection, south of Gaza City, opened fire at a car belonging to al-Telbani from a very close range as he was passing through the intersection, killing him on site.
Court hearings in the case were held over the past several years, during which the PCHR confirmed Israeli forces’ responsibility for the death in circumstances which did not require the use of weapons.
After a lengthy legal pursuit, a settlement was finally recently reached with the Israeli Military Advocate General’s representatives being ordered to pay 175,000 New Israeli Shekels (NIS) to the heirs of al-Telbani in exchange for closing the case.
Procedures to deliver the amount to the family are now in process, according to the PNN.
