In a statement released, Tuesday, the Palestinian Prisoners’ Society (PPS), said four Palestinian detainees, held by Israel, are ongoing with open-ended hunger strikes, in separate Israeli prisons and detention camps.
The PPS said the striking detainees are Saddam Awad, Rezeq Rajoub, Kifah Hattab and Khalil Abu Arram.
It stated that Saddam Awad, 28, from Beit Ummar town, north of the southern West Bank city of Hebron, is held at the Negev Detention Camp, and started his hunger strike sixteen days ago, demanding an end to his arbitrary Administrative Detention, without charges or trial.
This is the second hunger strike for Awad this year, demanding to be released, especially since he is being held without charges. He was repeatedly imprisoned by Israel, and spent a total of seven years in prison.
Awad was released under the Shalit Prisoner Swap Deal in 2011, and later was abducted and imprisoned for four years, and in April of this year was he was abducted again, and has been held under Administrative Detention orders since then.
The PPS also said that detainee Rezeq Rajoub, 61, from Doura town, near the southern West Bank city of Hebron, started his strike three days ago, protesting his Administrative Detention. He was taken prisoner on November 27, 2017.
Awad is also a former political prisoner who spent years in Israeli prisons, and held several hunger strikes.
Furthermore, two detainees, identified as Khalil Abu Arram and Kifah Hattab, are ongoing with hunger strikes they started eight days ago in Hadarim Israeli prison, in solidarity with female detainees who are refusing to go out of their rooms, starting 55 days ago, after the administration began operating surveillance cameras in the small yard they use when they are allowed out of their rooms.
Hattab, from Tulkarem governorate in northern West Bank, has been held since 2004, and was sentenced to two life-terms, while Abu Arram, from Hebron, was taken prisoner in 2002, and was sentenced to seven life terms.
Khalil Abu Arram, 50, from Yatta town near Hebron, was taken prisoner sixteen years ago, and is serving a life-term.
