In special speech marking Palestinian Nakbe (“catastrophe”) Day, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas says ‘peace must be based on U.N. resolution that ensures just solution to refugee problem’

‘The Palestinian people will not forget their identity and the Palestinian refugees regardless of how much time passes’ Abbas said.

Palestinians sound Siren, launch parades to mark 57 years since the exodus of Palestinian refugees.

“Right of return is sacred, he who forgoes it is a heretic” one refugee said.  

“We will fight all the plots aimed at dismissing our nation and the Palestinian refugee issue from the Middle East” Abbas, who is currently paying a visit to Japan, said.

At 12:00 p.m. a siren was heard throughout the Palestinian territories. Cars and pedestrians stopped for a moment of silence in commemoration of the 57th Nakbe Day. 

Abbas also sent a blessing to the soles of Palestinians killed in the ‘way to freedom’ and to the ‘braves’ held behind bars in Israeli jails.

According to PA data, the Palestinian population stands at some 10 million people, 40% reside in the West Bank and Gaza, around 54% of them are refugees.
