In an attempt to prevent further escalation in the area, the Palestinian Authority deployed its police and security men in the areas which Israel shelled in Rafah, Beit Lahia and Beit Hanoun in the Gaza Strip.

The deployment of P.A forces came in a bid to stop firing of homemade shells by the resistance at Israeli targets.

Palestinian and Israeli security sources reported on Tuesday that the firing of homemade shells was completely stopped.

The P.A forces were deployed after Israel shelled Rafah and Beit Hanoun. Israeli military sources reported that the shelling came after Islamic Jihad fighters fired several home made shells at the Negev to avenge the assassination of Lu’ay Al Saadi, one of the brigades’ leaders in the West Bank city of Tulkarem.

“This crime will not pass unpunished”, The Islamic Jihad movement said.

Five Palestinian residents, including a 65-year-old woman and a four-month infant, were injured due to the Israeli military shelling in Rafah, in the southern part of the Gaza Strip, earlier on Tuesday at dawn.

Also, military apaches, heavy artillery and gunboats shelled several areas in Beit Hanoun, including a building which belongs to Fateh movement, in the northern part of the Gaza Strip; damage was reported.

Several homes were damaged in Khan Younis, in the southern part of the Gaza Strip in a separate shelling carried by the army.

In Beit Lahia, in the northern part of the Gaza Strip, soldiers shelled the Bedouin area close to the city earlier on Tuesday.

Palestinian security sources in Beit Lahia reported that at least three missiles were fired by the F-16 fighters; the missiles detonated in an open area, no injuries were reported.
