Palestinian sources reported on Monday that the Monday evening meeting
between the Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas, and Prime Minister,
Ismail Haniyya, ended without an agreement on a national unity
government, but the two agreed to meet again on Tuesday.
Nabil Abu Rodeina, spokesperson of the Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas, said that the two leaders did not agree on the name of the new Prime Minister.
“The talks are not over yet”, Abu Rodeina stated, “They will be resumed tomorrow”.
Senior Hamas sources said that Hamas suggested Dr. Basim Na'im, as the new Prime Minister who will head the coming National Unity Government.
In a press conference that followed the meeting, Abu Rodeina said that there are several issues that needs to be discussed in details, and that he hopes that the on Tuesday or Wednesday all pending issues will be solved.
Also, Palestinian Legislative Council member, Dr. Mustafa Barghouthi, who also participated in the talks described the meeting as positive but said that the two leaders could not agree on all issues.
