Al-Quds brigade, the armed wing of the Islamic Jihad movement declared that they have fired a number of home-made shells at the Israeli town of Sderot, northeast of the Gaza Strip.IMEMC received a press statement from the brigade stating that its armed forces fired home-made shells at 18:23. No damages or casualties were reported.
Meanwhile, the Israeli right wing Shass party threatened on Monday to withdraw from the Israeli government if peace talks with Palestinians continue as long as the firing of home-made shells continues.
Shas Chairman Eli Yishai said ‘If there is any diplomatic progress in the negotiations with Palestinians beyond the current situation, and we are still under fire from Qassams and West Bank incidents, Shas will quit the government immediately.’
Palestinian resistance groups have been firing home-made shells at the Israeli town of Sderot and some other nearby towns causing a state of chaos in these towns, and wounding some Israeli civilians.
They claim that their attacks against Israel come in response to Israel’s ongoing targeting of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank and the construction of the separation wall which is being built mostly on Palestinian land.
Israel, on its part, had stepped up its siege on the Gaza Strip and escalated its air strikes and ground invasions claiming the lives of hundreds of Palestinians and causing serious damage. It has also lowered the supplies of fuel to the strip which resulted in disability to generate enough power to the entire Gaza Strip which is home to 1.5 million Palestinians. Israel claims that these measures are to stop the firing of the home-made shells from the Gaza Strip.
