Israeli sources reported Monday that a soldier of the Golani Brigade was shot in the head and died of his wounds during a training accident at a military base in the Golan Heights. The soldier was identified as Mor Cohen, 19. The bullet apparently penetrated a training wall through a possible crack and hit Cohen in the head.
The Israeli army initiated an investigation into the incident. Initial reports revealed that after the soldiers started firing at designated training targets, the commander noticed that Cohen was missing, Israeli Ynet News reported.
He was standing outside a training facility when he was shot in the head; a military doctor arrived at the scene and rushed him to a medical center in Safad where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The Ynet also stated that a military source described the incident as rare, and added that the bullet penetrated the wall of a concrete structure specially built for urban warfare training, which includes the use of live munitions.
