Egyptian authorities are going to release, the American-born Israeli spy “Ilan Gerabil” after having confirmed that he does not work for the Israeli Intelligence “Mossad”, claiming that the photo taken with Egyptians in Cairo during a picnic does not prove spying, Israeli TV Channel 10 reported. US Secretary of Defense, Leon Panetta, will be visiting Cairo this week to complete all procedures for the release of Gerabil, and will be flying together to the US, the Channel 10 added.

It stated that the US threatened to reduce its military support to Egypt if the latter refrains from releasing the spy.

For his part, the representative of the Israeli Kadima Party, Israeli member of Knesset, Yisrael Hasson, alleged that the arrest of Gerabil was based on competition between the Egyptian security forces after the resignation of the former Egyptian President, Hosni Mubarak, due to the Egyptian revolution.
