The Israeli West Jerusalem municipality has approved a tender to build 380 new illegal settlement units in occupied East Jerusalem, according to media sources.Jerusalem city councilor Yosef Pepe Alalu of the Meretz party told AFP that the municipalityâs committee approved the building of 307 new housing units in the illegal settlement of Ramot, and 73 others in Jabal Abu Ghnaim (Har Homa).
Israel has been approving the building of new housing units in settlements located in the occupied Palestinian territories, including in East Jerusalem, despite international condemnations, WAFA Palestinian News & Info Agency reports:
On October 27, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu gave orders for the construction of 1060 new housing units in two settlements in East Jerusalem; 660 new units in âRamot Shlomoâ, and 400 in âHar Homaâ, in addition to an infrastructure project of opening 12 new settlement roads in the West Bank.
Media reported on UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon criticizing Netanyahuâs settlement construction decision, challenging him âto show leadership and make compromises for peace.â
