The Israeli human rights organization B’Tselem released video evidence on Thursday showing Israeli soldiers executing two Palestinian men during a military invasion in Jenin, in the occupied West Bank’s northern part.
The footage, published by the group, depicts Yousef Asa’sa (39) and al-Muntasir-Billah Abdullah (26) emerging from a building with their hands raised, fully complying with soldiers’ orders, before being shot at close range.
B’Tselem stated that the men posed no threat and were unarmed, and described the incident as a field execution, emblematic of Israel’s open-fire policy in the occupied West Bank.
B’Tselem’s executive director Yuli Novak condemned the killings, stating: “This represents the direct result of a reality in which Palestinians are stripped of their humanity and their lives are discarded without restraint.”
She emphasized that Israel lacks genuine accountability mechanisms and called on the international community to end the impunity granted to soldiers and colonizers.
Since October 2023, more than 1,000 Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank by Israeli forces and colonizers.
Human rights groups note that perpetrators are shielded from prosecution under Israel’s legal system, which systematically protects soldiers and settlers from accountability.
The Jenin executions occurred amid the intensified military onslaught in the city, including the shooting of two children, demolition of homes, and drone surveillance. Local residents describe a climate of fear, where raids routinely result in casualties and destruction.
Palestinian officials condemned the killings as war crimes and urged international bodies to intervene.
Human rights advocates stress that without external accountability, such extrajudicial executions will continue unchecked, deepening the cycle of violence and erasure of Palestinian life in the occupied West Bank.
