United Nations spokesperson, Stéphane Dujarric, announced that Secretary-General António Guterres will participate in the Palestinian conflict resolution conference next June, and said that a resolution must be achieves to end the Israeli occupation, and establishing a Palestinian state.

Guterres confirmed the Secretary-General’s readiness to support the conference as needed to ensure its success.

On September 18, the General Assembly decided to hold a “high-level international conference to peacefully resolve the Palestine issue and implement the two-state solution” in June of next year.

Dujarric stated that the Secretary-General will participate in the opening segment of the conference, emphasizing that “the region needs urgent, irreversible action to enable the parties to re-engage in the long-awaited political process towards ending the occupation and resolving the conflict.”

The Secretary-General stressed that this “must happen in accordance with international law, relevant UN resolutions, and bilateral agreements, seeking to achieve the vision of two states—Israel and an independent, democratic, contiguous, viable, and sovereign Palestinian state—living side by side.”
