On Wednesday, another Palestinian detainee died in Israeli custody, just days before he was set for release, bringing the number of detainees who have died in occupation prisons since October 7, 2023 to 64.
The General Authority of Civil Affairs, the Commission of Detainees’ and Ex-Detainees’ Affairs, and the Palestinian Prisoners’ Society (PPS) reported that the Palestinian detainee, Musab Hassan Omar Adili, 20, died in Israeli custody, on Wednesday night in the Soroka Hospital in Israel.
Adili, a resident of the village of Osarin, south of Nablus in the northern occupied West Bank, was detained by occupation forces on March 22, 2024 and sentenced to one year and one month in prison; he set for release in less than a week’s time when he died.
According to the Commission of Detainees’ and Ex-Detainees’ Affairs, and the (PPS), 64 Palestinian detainees have died in occupation prisons since the beginning of Israel’s military onslaught against the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023.
The prisoners’ rights groups added that since the occupation of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip in 1967, 301 Palestinians have died in Israeli prison; the occupation continues to withhold the bodies of 73 of slain detainees.
The Commission of Detainees’ and Ex-Detainees’ Affairs and the (PPS) stated that they hold the Israeli occupation fully responsible for the death of the young detainee, Adili, and demanded that the International Human Rights community take action to hold the Israeli government to account for its crimes against the Palestinian people.
Additionally, the Commission and the PPS demanded an end to Israel’s impunity, and called for the imposition of sanctions against the criminal occupation, in order to justly isolate it and preserve the fragile state of the human rights system.
On the occasion of Palestinian Prisoners’ Day (April 17, 2025), the Addameer Prisoner Support and Human Rights Association launched an urgent appeal to “boycott and isolate” the Israeli occupation regime.
Addameer reported that since October 7, 2023, the Israeli army has abducted more than 16,500 Palestinians from Gaza and the West Bank, including 500 women an 1200 children.
According to Addameer, 9900 Palestinians, including 400 children and 27 women remain imprisoned by the occupation state; 3498 of whom are held under Administrative Detention without charges being against them and without the prospect of a trial.
