The Islamic Jihad movement demanded the Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas, to refrain from meeting the Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon in their scheduled meeting on October 2, 2005.

“We advise the president not to meet with Sharon”, Khaled Al Batsh, one of the political leaders of the Islamic Jihad said, “Such a meeting with give Sharon legitimacy to his actions in the occupied territories”.

Also, Al Batsh added that this meeting will not bring any positive developments to the region, especially to the Palestinian people, who are still suffering from the military occupation in the West Bank, and daily violations.

“Sharon will try to show the world that he sacrificed a lot by withdrawing from the Gaza Strip”, Al Batsh stated, “Sharon will demand disarming the resistance and fighting them, he will try to create a civil war between the P.A and resistance factions”.
