The wife of the Palestinian administrative detainee, Maher Al-Akhras, 49, who has been on hunger strike for 73 days, has announced that she will begin a hunger strike and participate in a sit-in in front of the Israeli “Kaplan” hospital where her husband is fighting against the unjust, Israeli imposed administrative detention.
The Palestinian Prisoners’ Society (PPS) said in a statement, Wednesday, that the detainee, from Jenin, is in extreme danger as his health condition has worsened over time, he continues to refuse any supplemental nutrition.
The Israeli Court, last week, denied a request for his release, after a previous decision on September 23 to ‘freeze’ but not to end his administrative detention.
Al-Akhras is also a former prisoner, having spent four years in Israeli prisons, he is a father of six children. He has been detained without charges since July 27, 2020.
According to the Addameer Prisoner Support and Human Rights Association, “Administrative detention is a procedure that allows Israeli occupation forces to hold prisoners indefinitely on secret information without charging them or allowing them to stand trial. The secret information or evidence cannot be accessed by the detainee nor his lawyer, and can according to Israeli military orders, an administrative detention order can be renewed for an unlimited time. The court issues an administrative detention order for a maximum period of six months, subject to renewal.”
