Palestinian medical sources reported on Tuesday that six Palestinian residents, including four members of the Preventive Security Force, were injured after gunmen fired RPG shells (rocket propelled grenades) at a Palestinian security post in Tal Al Hawa area in Gaza city; one of the security men is in a serious condition. v
Eyewitnesses reported that the shells wee fired from a nearby building. The side behind this attack remains unknown.
Security personnel at the post fired at the assailants but they apparently managed to flee the area unharmed.
A Palestinian security source reported that four of the injured are members if the preventive security device and two are maintainable workers.
The source did not accuse any side of the attack and said that a probe in the incident has been initiated.
The Preventative Security is loyal to the Palestinian president, Mahmoud Abbas, and has been at the center of a power struggle between Abbas and his main rival, Hamas movement after it swept the majority of the seats of the Legislative Council in January elections.
In a separate incident, the Israeli artillery pounded several areas in the northern and eastern parts of the Gaza Strip, no injuries were reported.
Moreover, the Al Quds Brigades, the military wing of the Islamic Jihad claimed responsibility for firing two homemade shells at the Israeli Negev town of Sderot.
