Dr. Ismail Radwan, media spokesperson of Hamas movement, demanded the Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas, to resume talks in order to finalize and conclude the negotiations over the formation of a national unity government.
In an interview with the Arabs48 news website, Radwan stated that the Hamas-led government is committed to a unity government that is based on the National Unity Document and has a clear agenda.
Radwan added that he is optimistic regarding this issue, and said that the talks should resume especially after the recent set-back that caused despair and uncertainty in the Palestinian areas.
Also, Radwan stated that if the Palestinian factions fail to achieve a unity government, the alternative would not be positive and would not serve the interests of the Palestinian people.
“We have to form a national unity government”, he said, “We have to resume the talks, we have no other alternative than being united in a national unity government”.
Commenting on the upcoming meeting between Abbas and the Palestinian Prime Minister, Ismail Haniyya, Radwan said that there is no set date for the meeting, but it will be conducted in the near future.
The two leaders are expected to hold talks on the unity government, the resumption of internal talks, and several other issues regarding imposing law and order and halting all sorts of violent and armed clashes between Hamas and Fateh gunmen.
“We have to stop chaos, enforce law and order and make sure we completely stop the chaos”, Radwan stated, “The only way out of this crisis is to continue the internal talks in order to form a unity government”.
