Israeli forces carried out, on Tuesday, a large-scale military invasion into the city of Tulkarem, and the Tulkarem and Nur Shams refugee camps, in the northwestern part of the West Bank.
Media sources said that before dawn Tuesday, a large army force, accompanied by bulldozers, invaded the city of Tulkarem from its western entrance, while infantry units marched several streets in various neighborhoods of the city.
The army pushed additional reinforcements towards the city, while reconnaissance drones flew over the city and its camps at a low altitude.
Military bulldozers caused severe destruction to infrastructure and citizens’ property in the city and the Tulkarem camp.
Military vehicles besieged the Tulkarem refugee camp, while soldiers were stationed at several of its entrances, and stormed the Al-Aqsa neighborhood in the Shweika suburb, north of Tulkarem.
Sources added that the army positioned sharpshooters on the rooftops of many tall buildings in several neighborhoods of the city, amid the firing of live rounds.
The occupation army surrounded the Martyr Thabet Thabet Governmental Hospitals and the Al-Israa Specialized Hospital in the city, and imposed a curfew on the city.
Meanwhile, soldiers detained press crews who were trying to cover the incursion, and seized their ID cards.
At the Shweika roundabout, soldiers stopped and searched citizens’ vehicles, and inspected the ID cards of their occupants.
It was added that occupation forces disrupted the internet in the city and both of its camps, and opened live fire towards an electricity transformer causing a power outage in parts of the Nur Shams camp, east of the city.
Later, the army pushed more reinforcements, including more heavy machinery, and proceeded to storm and surround the Nur Shams refugee camp.
It is important to mention that during the incursion, armed Palestinian resistance fighters exchanged heavy fire with the attacking army.
