The News Cast
A Palestinian young man was found dead on Thursday inside a tunnel at the Gaza Strip boarders with Egypt. Eighteen year old Bilal Abu Taha went missing along with five other workers as a tunnel at the southern Gaza Strip borders collapsed on them on Tuesday. Five made it to the Egyptian side unharmed while Abu Taha got trapped and was found dead today, Palestinian medical sources reported.
Since Israel started its siege on the Gaza Strip back on June 2006, the tunnels at the borders with Egypt became the main sources of much needed supplies for the 1.5 million Palestinians living in the coastal enclave. With Abu Taha’s death the number of workers killed in tunnel accidents now reached 132, health officials in Gaza told media.
Elsewhere in the Gaza Strip, Israeli tanks attacked areas near Al Qarrara town southern Gaza. Local sources said that tanks and bulldozers operated at the border line and 300 meters inside the costal territory, no damage or injuries were reported.
In other news, Two Palestinian youth were injured on Thursday by Israeli troops during clashes erupted in the southern West Bank city of Bethlehem. Troops stormed the Deheishe camp for Palestinian Refugees in Bethlehem; then searched and ransacked a number of homes and detained two young men identified as Waleed Abu Marzuka, 20 years old, and Ayman Abboni, 18.
During the invasion, troops opened fire at Palestinian youth who hurled stones at invading forces injuring two; 20 years old Nayif Ramadan in his leg and 22 years old Mohammad Al Hassanat in his head. Both were moved to a hospital in the city were doctors described their wounds as moderate.
Also on Thursday, Israeli settlers attacked Palestinian residents in Hebron’s old city, southern West Bank, injuring four. Armed Israeli settlers attacked residents while on their way to the Ibrahimi Mosque (Tomb of Patriarchs) for prayer, local sources reported.
Abed Al Ra’ouf Al Mohtaseb and his 19 years old son Mohamed sustained moderate wounds due to the attacks and were moved to a local hospital for treatment. Another two men sustained light wounds and were treated at location, medical sources reported.
