Israeli soldiers, stationed at a military checkpoint east of Jerusalem, detained Usaid Atta, 21, from Deheishe refugee camp near Bethlehem on Wednesday afternoon.Atta was on his way back from work in Ramallah when soldiers stopped him and checked his documents, then took him to unknown destination. Atta works for the Aqsa Satellite channel, believed to be run by Hamas.
This military checkpoint known as the “container” checkpoint is placed on the only route that connects the north of the West Bank with its southern parts. Similar to hundreds of checkpoint, passing through this checkpoint does not lead to Israeli areas in any direction.
This route was built to replace the route that goes through Jerusalem in 1991 shortly after Israel prevented Palestinians to enter Jerusalem.
