The Israeli army invaded al Khiljan village, near the northern West Bank city of Jenin, and detained six members of the Al Khatib family. This invasion came after Mahmoud al Khatib allegedly killed an Israeli soldier on Wednesday.Local sources reported the army abducted Mohammad Iqab al Khatib, 38 and his brother Atef, 27 along with Mohammad Yousef al Khatib, 27 and his three brothers Ahmad, 20, Imad, 38, and Aseed, 17.
During the home invasion, Israeli troops are said to have damaged property and confiscated personal effects such as computers, pictures and documents.
Maan News Agency reported Mahmoud Al Khatib to be a Palestinian police officer.
The slain Israeli soldier, identified as Ihab al Khatib, is reported to be from the Druze village of al Maghar.
Israeli Ynet News reported the soldier to be a member of the Israeli infantry corps named Kfir Brigade. The soldier died from stab wounds at the Tapuach Junction in the occupied West Bank, shortly after the incident the assailant was apprehended on the scene.
Family of the slain soldier told Israeli Ynet news his uncle, also an Israeli soldier, was killed during a military attack in the Jordan valley ten years ago and his aunt was killed during the Lebanon war four years ago when her home was hit by a Katyusha rocket in the eastern Galilee area.
Palestinian Prime Minister, Dr. Salaam Fayyad, said his security forces will act to ensure similar attacks are prevented.
Fayyad said this attack contradicts Palestinian national interests and the obligations of the Palestinian Authority.
He added that Palestinians are united behind nonviolent resistance against the Wall, settlements and attacks carried out by armed settlers.
Fayyad further stated that violence harms the entire cause for peace, while nonviolent resistance enjoys international support.
