The Egyptian Authorities informed a number of Hamas political leaders that they will not be allowed to cross into Egypt on their way for pilgrimage to Mecca. Hamas spokesperson, Dr. Sami Abu Zuhri, stated that Cairo informed the Hamas-led government in Gaza that “certain leaders” of the movement will not be allowed into Egypt but did not provide any explanation.
The Hamas leaders intended to cross into Egypt on their way to perform pilgrimage to Mecca, Saudi Arabia.
Abu Zuhri demanded Egypt reconsider its position and to refrain from employing political differences in issues related to religious matters.
The Ma’an News Agency quoted anonymous Hamas sources that the Hamas leaders Egypt are preventing from entering the country are legislator Dr. Salaah Bardaweel, and Hamas spokespersons Dr. Sami Abu Zuhri and Fawzi Barhoum.
The sources added that the list will likely expand in the coming days.
