Palestinian sources reported Monday that detainee Mustafa Shihab Abdul-Wahab, 16 years old, from a village near the central West Bank city of Ramallah, was released from an Israeli detention facility due to a sharp deterioration of his health conditions. His lawyer, Tareq Barghout, filed a motion for his release for medical treatment as his condition deteriorated during his imprisonment due to the Israeli prison staff not providing medical care for his condition.
The case of Abdul-Wahab is one of hundreds of cases of ailing Palestinian detainees who are deprived of their basic right to medical treatment.
Dozens of detainees are in solitary confinement, some of them are seriously ill and need urgent medical attention.
According to the Palestinian prisoner society, 201 Palestinian detainees have died in Israeli prisons. Some of them died due to being shot and arrested despite their injuries; others died of extreme torture during interrogation; and others of medical negligence.
