Israeli forces, Wednesday, clashed with Palestinians near the town of Silwad, to the north of Ramallah, following attempts by residents to block a highway used by settlers, in solidarity with Palestinian prisoners on hunger strike, according to a local source.

Abdul Rahman Saleh, mayor of Silwad, told WAFA that clashes were intense, leading to one resident, identified as Ibrahim Hamed, being injured from army gunfire and later detained.

His situation was not immediately known.

Saleh said that many people, including women and children, suffocated due to the tear gas bombs that were fired at the town by Israeli forces during the clashes.
