Israel considered the initiative of Sweden for declaring recognizing a Palestinian State in the occupied territories, with East Jerusalem as its capital, as a stance that does not represent the European Union, and demanded voiding this proposal.

Emanuel Yavon, European Affairs correspondent at Israel’s TV, Channel 10, said that Israel will fight this initiative especially when taking into consideration that 27 European countries will likely vote for the it.

Emanuel added that should this proposal be adopted by the E.U, it will have negative impacts on Israel.

Meanwhile, the Palestinian Authority is conducting efforts to convince the EU to adopt the proposal.

Palestinian Foreign Minister, Riyadh Al Maliki, told the Al Watan Saudi paper that the initiative tops the agenda of the Palestinian Authority.

He said that the EU should endorse the Swedish Initiative, and that this document should be turned into a real move on the ground by being submitted to the United Nations Security Council.

The Palestinian FM also stated that France did not reject the whole initiative but has reservations on some of its clauses.

Al Maliky will be traveling to Russia next week to try to convince Moscow to recognize the declaration of a Palestinian State at the Security Council.
