Demonstrations across the West Bank push Israeli Security officials to support the Palestinian Authority while the PA struggles to meet the economic needs of its people. These stories and more, coming up, stay tuned.
Egypt’s Intelligence warned US and Israeli officials of a planned extremist attack on their embassies in Cairo. The threats, sent by the “Global Islamic Jihad,” arrived in a letter addressed to the Egyptian deputy Interior Minister, General Sami Sidhom. Israel claims that the global Islamic Jihad is also responsible for the death of 16 officers that took place on an Egyptian military base last month.
In West Bank news, Israeli Radio reports that senior Israeli security officials filed an urgent recommendation to the Israeli Government of Benjamin Netanyahu to transfer large sums of cash to Palestinian Prime Minister, Dr. Salaam Fayyad, in an effort to prevent the collapse of his government. Without a loan, and amidst massive waves of protests demanding Fayyad’s resignation, the PA will be unable to pay salaries, reduce living costs, and address the demands of the people.
The recommendation includes transferring large sums of cash to the P.A;. transferring all Tax and Customs money collected on behalf of the P.A, and a call to Europe and the United States to support the P.A. by all possible means.
In Hebron, clashes took place after several unknown persons hurled stones and empty bottles at Hebron’s City Council building, and at the Fire Department, causing serious damage. Hebron Red Crescent reported nine ambulances transferred the wounded to a number of hospitals in the area, while dozens of residents received treatments by field medics. Some 80 people were injured in the clash, most after inhaling gas fired by Israeli soldiers against protesters. An activist from the Youth Coalition denounced the acts of violence that take away from the legitimacy of nonviolent protests.
